![]() Dominic A. Brandy, MD, is one of a handful of doctors in the U.S. to offer an innovative advancement in hair restoration surgery that can actually ENHANCE RESULTS. "Our clinical experience has shown a positive difference with Platelet Rich Plasma. (PRP) Gel, which can accelerate the healing process, cause less trauma to existing hair, and stimulate hair re-growth," said Dr. Brandy.Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a safe, effective and biocompatible way of using the body's natural healing mechanisms in a highly concentrated manner. When the patient's own platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF) are used in the immediate transplantation process, there appears to be a higher survival rate equating to more hair and a fuller result. According to an article published in the July/August 2007 issue of Hair Transplant Forum International, the use of PRP in hair restoration surgery can enhance donor site wound healing, reduce donor scarring and enhance recipient site healing. "Given what we know today, I can't see why any hair restoration patient would forgo the opportunity to have a better outcome," said Dr. Brandy. If you are looking for a way to improve the appearance of thinning hair without a surgical or medical alternative such as minoxidil or finasteride, LUCE® Laser Light Therapy may be for you. LUCE® Laser Light Therapy (LLT) uses low-level, cool laser light that is applied directly to the scalp. Most clients find the treatment relaxing as they sit beneath the overhead light for 20 to 30 minutes. There are no thermal components that might cause cuts or burns to the inner tissue. The LLT stimulates the circulation, nerves, muscles and growth centers of the follicular unit, creating a healthier environment for you hair, scalp and skin – maximizing the potential for growth of hair. Hair may appear thicker, fuller and healthier after a series of treatments. LLT has shown to be a good maintenance modality for people not wanting medical therapy for hair loss and has shown to promote wound healing due to the bio-stimulation of the tissues. We offer local hair restoration patients up to four free postoperative LLT treatments to maximize hair regrowth. Individuals who would like to try Laser Light Therapy first before opting for a surgical procedure are encouraged to do so. If they choose to purchase a one-year package and then decide to move forward with a hair transplant procedure within a year, we offer a full credit toward the procedure. LLT treatments are available only at The Skin Center in Wexford. For more information on Laser Light Therapy, contact David Flodine at dflodine@brandymd.com or by calling 1-800-429-1151. |

I heard you can lose hair after a hair transplant? Will it grow back? Can this hairloss be prevented? There are two types of hair shedding that are common after a hair transplant procedure, both of which are temporary. 1. The newly transplanted hair will begin to shed within 10 to 14 days after the procedure. 2. Some pre-existing hair in the recipient area may thin within a few weeks after the procedure. 3. In the first instance, the trauma associated with the removal of hair grafts from their original blood supply and the transfer to another location on the scalp, may prompt the shedding process, or telogen phase, which can last a few months. In some cases, when Laser Light Therapy or Rogaine (minoxidil) usage is commenced shortly after the procedure, some of the shedding may be prevented and / or the telogen (resting) phase may be shortened causing the newly transplanted hair to grow in quicker. Also, we recommend that men who have taking Propecia (finasteride 1mg) prior to their procedures, continue usage after hair restoration as a defense against future hairloss. Clinical studies have shown Propecia® to slow, stop or reverse the miniaturization process of the hair shafts in men with male pattern hairloss. We have seen promising results with a newer innovation called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), which provides an enriched environment of concentrated growth factors that can help accelerate the body's own wound response and jumpstart the healing and hair growth process. For more information, call David Flodine at 1-800-429-1151. ©2005 by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Inc. Conclusion. For men with androgenetic alopecia, therapy with Propecia® 1 mg. daily from four weeks before until 48 weeks after hair transplant improves scalp hair surrounding the hair transplant and increases hair density. |
